Mannkind Charity has sponsored the Mannkind Girls to Grannies Village that is currently in construction through our building partner, Cambodian Children’s Fund, in the Steung Meanchey district of Phnom Penh. The project will provide a fully conceived community to 200 women and children currently living in poverty by constructing 50 homes, pagoda, library, sports field, playground, community garden and security gate with a full-time security officer, thereby allowing children to be cared for in a safe and dignified environment as they pursue their education.
Cambodian girls face immense pressures to drop out of school and begin working. These young girls live and work in dangerous conditions while picking up garbage surrounding the dump. This village offers a stable, healthy place for girls who have been orphaned or abandoned to stay. Girls staying at the village can attend school instead of having to pick garbage to survive. Grannies of the community will stay in this village to nurture the younger women and girls.
The Mannkind Girls to Grannies Village is anticipated to complete in November 2020.
